Swift Police Action Rescues Sri Lankan Businessman Kidnapped in Chennai; Four Arrested Including Woman

In a daring operation, Chennai police successfully rescued a 50-year-old Sri Lankan businessman who was kidnapped by a gang during his visit for business purposes. The abduction was foiled, and law enforcement apprehended four suspects, including a woman, in connection with the incident.

The identified kidnappers are K Chitra (43) of Anna Nagar West, M Riyaz Askhar (47) of Anna Nagar West, G Velmurugan (41) of West KK Nagar, and K Dinesh (31) of West KK Nagar. The victim, Mohammed Shyam, had recently arrived from Sri Lanka and was residing in Parry’s Corner, Mannady, in the northern part of Chennai.

The police initiated action after receiving a complaint via phone at the control room from a woman claiming to be Shyam’s daughter. She reported that she had received a call on Wednesday from someone purporting to have kidnapped her father, demanding a ransom of Rs 15 lakh for his release.

The B-1 North Beach police swiftly traced the phone number used for the ransom call, leading to the arrest of the four individuals and the safe recovery of Shyam. The police investigation revealed that Chitra, owing money from Shyam, orchestrated the kidnapping along with her boyfriend and other accomplices, transporting the victim in a car.

This timely and effective police intervention highlights the commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and visitors in Chennai, sending a strong message against criminal activities in the city. Source – The IndianExpress
