Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin Urges PM Modi’s Intervention for Release of Detained Fishermen

Chennai, 18th February: In a fervent appeal, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin called upon Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday to intervene urgently and secure the release and repatriation of Tamil Nadu fishermen apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy.

Expressing his concern on the matter, the Chief Minister highlighted the distress caused by the prolonged detention of these fishermen, emphasizing that they are not only Tamils but also proud Indians. The Chief Minister conveyed his message through ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), stating that the escalating arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen over the past two days are deeply troubling.

Stalin pointed out that the fishermen are being unfairly treated as habitual offenders, leading to their extended confinement, with their livelihoods now under severe threat. Additionally, he brought to light the confiscation of several expensive mechanized boats by the Sri Lankan Navy, which have subsequently been nationalized by the Sri Lankan government.

This issue has gained significance as the Chief Minister urges the Prime Minister to address the situation promptly and ensure the release and safe return of these fishermen.
