UN Reaffirms Support for Sri Lanka’s Development, Poverty Reduction, and Women’s Empowerment Initiatives

Marc-Andre Franche, the United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC) for Sri Lanka, has reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s development efforts. During a courtesy call on Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya in Colombo on October 22, Franche assured the UN’s backing for the country’s poverty reduction and digitalization programs.

The meeting, according to the Prime Minister’s Office, also emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment, with the UN expressing its eagerness to assist Sri Lanka in this area.

Present at the meeting were Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister, Additional Secretary Mahinda Gunarathna, Director General of the United Nations and Human Rights Division Dayani Mendis, and representatives from the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, Patrick McCarthy and Nethmini Medawala.
