The United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Marc-André Franche, met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Thursday (03) at the Presidential Secretariat.
During the meeting, Mr. Franche conveyed warm greetings from UN Secretary-General António Guterres to President Dissanayake, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
Mr. Franche praised the President’s manifesto, commending the ethical nature of his political campaign. He acknowledged that the coming period will be challenging, as public expectations are high, but assured the UN’s support for Sri Lanka’s IMF programme and the government’s efforts to eradicate poverty.
He also highlighted the President’s anti-corruption initiative, noting it offers hope for a fresh start. The UN pledged both technical and financial assistance to aid in these efforts.
Additionally, the UN praised the President’s unique initiative to promote national peace among diverse communities, commending his dedication to building trust. The UN pledged full support for this initiative to foster lasting peace in the country, the PMD added.
