In a significant declaration, United National Party (UNP) Chairman Vajira Abeywardana has announced his party’s intention to position Ranil Wickremesinghe for a historic presidential victory in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Abeywardana expressed his confidence, stating, “When 2024 ends, we will turn a new chapter in Sri Lankan history.” He emphasized that Wickremesinghe would secure “the highest number of votes in recorded history.”
Furthermore, Abeywardana asserted Wickremesinghe’s leadership prowess, comparing him favorably to world leaders such as Joe Biden, Xi Jinping, and Vladimir Putin.
Calling for unity within the UNP and among other parties, Abeywardana urged them to refrain from contesting the election, proposing a united front in support of Wickremesinghe.
Abeywardana went on to suggest that only “insane” individuals would contest against Wickremesinghe, underscoring his confidence in Wickremesinghe’s potential for success in the presidential race.
