In a decision announced today, the UNP Management Committee has chosen the current President, Ranil Wickremesinghe, to be their official candidate for the upcoming Presidential election scheduled for September this year.
Sources indicate that President Wickremesinghe is anticipated to be positioned as the national candidate during the election campaign.
The UNP Management Committee, consisting of key figures such as Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, MP Vajira Abeywardene, Harin Fernando, and Ruwan Wijewardene, reached a consensus on this strategic move.
