UPI launched in Sri Lanka and Mauritius

Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, alongside Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, presided over the launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, along with the commencement of RuPay card services in Mauritius, conducted via video conferencing.

India, a frontrunner in Fintech innovation and Digital Public Infrastructure, underlined its commitment to sharing developmental experiences and innovative solutions with partner nations. Leveraging India’s strong cultural and people-to-people ties with Sri Lanka and Mauritius, the initiative aims to streamline digital transactions and bolster digital connectivity among the nations, enriching the experiences of a diverse spectrum of users.

The launch signifies the availability of UPI settlement services for Indian nationals traveling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius, as well as for Mauritian nationals journeying to India. Additionally, the expansion of RuPay card services in Mauritius empowers Mauritian banks to issue cards based on the RuPay mechanism locally, facilitating the seamless utilization of RuPay Cards for transactions both within India and Mauritius.
