In a recent statement, Julie Chung, the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, has expressed confidence that the island nation will hold its presidential elections in the coming year. Emphasizing the significance of timely elections for any democracy, Ambassador Chung underscored the importance of allowing the people to voice their opinions and choose their leadership through the ballot box.
Ambassador Chung further conveyed the hope that in aby constitution, Local Government Elections, Parliamentary Elections, and Provincial Council Elections will also be conducted as scheduled. She emphasized the vital role these elections play in upholding the democratic process in Sri Lanka, a tradition that has been upheld for decades.
“We hope that the elections stay on schedule next year and onwards, and we are looking forward to seeing that free and fair election, and that culture of free and fair elections that’s been in Sri Lanka for decades continue,” Ambassador Chung remarked, underscoring the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
