US Looks Forward to Collaborating with Sri Lanka’s Future Leader, Says Ambassador Julie Chung

The United States is eager to work closely with the leader that Sri Lankan voters choose in the upcoming presidential election, according to US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung.

In a message posted on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to mark the International Day of Democracy, Ambassador Chung emphasized the values that underpin any robust democracy, such as accountability, human rights, justice, and the power of elections in ensuring every citizen’s voice is heard.

“No process is more essential to Sri Lanka’s democracy than free and fair elections, and the United States looks forward to working closely with the candidate Sri Lankan voters choose to lead their country into the future,” she stated.

With over 17 million registered voters across 22 electoral districts, Sri Lanka is preparing for its highly anticipated presidential election on September 21, where 38 candidates will compete for the presidency.
