Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana Join Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Sri Lankan cricketers Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana have been sold to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Hasaranga, the star leg-spinner, commanded a whopping ₹5.25 crore, reflecting his reputation as a match-winner in limited-overs cricket. Meanwhile, Theekshana, a skilled off-spinner, secured a deal worth ₹4.40 crore.

Hasaranga’s IPL Journey

  • Hasaranga missed the IPL 2024 season due to injury, having been part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) squad. He was acquired by SRH in the 2024 auction for ₹1.5 crore.
  • Before joining SRH, Hasaranga was released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after the 2023 season.
  • During IPL 2022, he emerged as RCB’s highest wicket-taker, claiming 26 wickets at an average of 16.54.

T20 Career Highlights

  • With 287 wickets from 200 T20 matches at an average of 16.65 and an economy rate of 6.90, Hasaranga is among the most consistent performers in the format.
  • As an all-rounder, he has also contributed 2,314 runs at a strike rate of 145.16, including nine half-centuries.

Theekshana’s IPL Record

  • Theekshana, who was picked ahead of Hasaranga by RR, has previously represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in three IPL seasons (2022–2024).
  • He has taken 25 wickets in 27 IPL matches, with a four-wicket haul to his name.

The duo’s addition strengthens Rajasthan Royals’ spin-bowling department, making them a formidable pairing for the 2025 season.
