Cabinet of Ministers Approves Drafting Comprehensive Bill on Child Rights in Sri Lanka

Responding to mounting concerns regarding the safeguarding and well-being of children in Sri Lanka, the Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to a proposal advocating the formulation of a comprehensive draft bill on child rights.

The proposal in question was presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who serves as the Minister of Women, Child Affairs, and Social Empowerment.

Consequently, the Legal Draftsman will be tasked with preparing the composite act, consolidating the rights outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This initiative aims to supplement the existing legal provisions dedicated to the protection of child rights, as stated in an official statement.
