Multiple Members of Parliament (MPs) and ministers have appealed to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, urging him to authorize tax-free imports of vehicles.
Speaker Abeywardena confirmed receipt of a joint letter signed by members from both the ruling party and the opposition, expressing their collective plea.
He added that he intends to formally convey this request to President Ranil Wickramasinghe.
Significantly, the Speaker highlighted that MPs have been prohibited from importing vehicles for the past decade, while several ministers continue to rely on vehicles exceeding 12 years in age.
