Recent revelations highlight that the assessed tax arrears within the jurisdiction of the Colombo Municipal Council have surpassed Rs. 5 billion. Colombo Municipal Commissioner Badrani Jayawardena notes that Rs. 1 billion of this total amount constitutes overdue payments from state-owned institutes.
In response to this substantial arrearage, steps have been initiated to provide incentives for early payment of assessment taxes. Commissioner Jayawardena mentions that discounts will be offered to individuals who settle their assessment tax obligations promptly at the beginning of the year.
