Customs and Traditions Upheld: ‘Nekath Seettuwa’ Presented to President Ranil Wickremesinghe

Today, at the Presidential Secretariat (April 10), in adherence to customary practices, the ‘Nekath Seettuwa’, delineating auspicious times for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year of this year, was formally presented to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Prepared meticulously by the State Astrologers’ Committee of the Department of Cultural Affairs, the ‘Nekath Seettuwa’ was ceremoniously handed over to the President by Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Vidura Wickremanayake.

The auspicious periods outlined within encompass a range of timings, including the dawn of the New Year, ‘Punya Kaalaya’ or inauspicious times, propitious moments for cooking, working, eating, anointing, embarking on tasks, and more.

Among the distinguished attendees at this significant event were President’s Senior Advisor on National Security and Chief of Presidential Staff, Sagala Ratnayake; President’s Secretary, Saman Ekanayake; Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Shasana Religious and Cultural Affairs, Somaratne Vidanapathirana; along with several other dignitaries.
