The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather alert for extreme heat in parts of the island tomorrow (18). According to the advisory, the heat index, which indicates the temperature felt on the human body, is expected to reach the ‘Caution’ level in several regions including the Northern, North-central, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern, Southern, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Monaragala District.
The department has cautioned that prolonged exposure to these conditions could lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and in extreme cases, heatstroke.
