Former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga Appointed Head of Podujana Eksatha Peramuna’s Leadership Council

In a significant development, Former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has been appointed as the head of the leadership council of Podujana Eksatha Peramuna (PA). The decision was announced by Thisara Gunasinghe, the spokesperson for the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), following an executive council meeting held on Tuesday (6) to amend the constitution of Podujana Eksatha Peramuna.

The amendment to the party’s constitution allows the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to participate in the upcoming elections as a broader alliance under the symbol of the Chair. As per the amended constitution, the SLFP will play a significant role within Podujana Eksatha Peramuna, securing 25% representation on the leadership board and 50% power in the working committee.

Gunasinghe also disclosed plans to appoint new office bearers for Podujana Eksatha Peramuna, with the selection of a new party secretary scheduled for February 22. The changes signify a strategic shift and consolidation within the political landscape, setting the stage for the party’s future endeavors.
