Hydropower Generation Decreases by Approximately 10% Amid Dry Weather Conditions

The generation of hydropower has declined by roughly 10% due to the ongoing dry weather, disclosed Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy, Sulakshana Jayawardena.

Traditionally, hydropower generation is maintained at 30%, but the current levels have dropped to around 20%. This adjustment aims to effectively manage water resources for both consumption and cultivation purposes.

Additionally, the Ministry of Power and Energy reported an increase in daily electricity consumption, reaching approximately 50 gigawatt hours compared to the usual average of 43 gigawatt hours.
