Island-Wide Trade Union Action by Teachers and Principals Today

Teachers and principals in schools across the island will engage in trade union action today. Venerable Ulapane Sumangala Thero, convenor of the National Collective Against Teachers’ and Principals’ Salary Disparities, announced that teachers and principals will report sick as part of their protest.

This decision comes in response to the lack of solutions provided for issues related to salary anomalies.

The Ministry of Education confirmed in a statement that schools will continue to operate as usual today and tomorrow, despite the ongoing trade union action.

Additionally, the strike by non-academic employees of state universities has now entered its 29th consecutive day.
