In a recent SLFP media conference themed ‘We Stand for Freedom’ (‘Nidahasa Wenuwen Api’), the Leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Maithripala Sirisena, has assured the party’s backing for a proposal aiming to abolish the Executive Presidency. During the conference, the former President disclosed that, based on the information received, steps are in progress to present such a proposal in the near future.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has taken a contrary stance, declaring that the present time is not suitable for the abolition of the Executive Presidency.
