National Audit Office Faces Significant Staff Shortage, 40% of Positions Vacant

The National Audit Office has revealed that 40 percent of positions within the audit service are currently vacant, posing challenges for the effective execution of certain special audits. Auditor General W.A.C. Wickramaratne highlighted the pressing issue and mentioned that applications have been invited for the recruitment of audit officers to address the staffing shortfall.

To mitigate the shortage, the Auditor General specified that applications have been sought from graduates currently employed in the government service. Plans are underway to promptly conduct a competitive examination as part of the recruitment process, aiming to fill 465 vacancies and strengthen the workforce within the audit service.
