National Minimum Wage Set to Increase

Under the provisions of the National Minimum Wages Act, the National Minimum Wage is currently established at Rs.12,500. However, a committee, appointed based on the recommendations of the National Labour Advisory Council, suggests raising this wage to Rs.17,500.

Additionally, the National Minimum Daily Wage, currently at Rs. 500, is proposed to be elevated by Rs. 200 to Rs. 700.

The proposal presented by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, to amend the National Minimum Wage Act has received approval.
