Over 700 Inmates to Receive Presidential Pardon in Commemoration of Sri Lanka’s 76th Independence Day

The Prisons Department has announced that more than 700 inmates held in prisons across the island will be released on Sunday, February 4th, in observance of Sri Lanka’s 76th Independence Day.

A total of 754 prisoners, which includes 25 female inmates, are set to benefit from a special presidential pardon granted under the powers vested in the President as outlined in Article 34 of the Constitution, clarified Prisons Commissioner (Operation/Intelligence) and Spokesman, Gamini B. Dissanayake.
