A Pakistani woman arriving from Abu Dhabi this morning was arrested by the Customs Narcotic Control Unit at Katunayake International Airport (BIA) for attempting to smuggle 2.450 kilograms of heroin into the country.
The 57-year-old woman had entered the country under the pretense of being a tourist. Investigations revealed that the market value of the heroin is estimated to be over Rs. 73.5 million.
A Customs spokesperson stated that the heroin was concealed in a false bottom of the woman’s bag. She has been handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau officials at the airport for further action.
