President Ranil Wickremesinghe Engages in 2024 Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Day Celebration

President Ranil Wickremesinghe recently took part in the 2024 Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Day celebration at Galle Face Green. The commemorative event, chaired by President Wickremesinghe, centered around the theme “Ensuring a Sustainable Indian Ocean for Future Generations,” as reported by the President’s Media Division (PMD).

During the celebration, President Wickremesinghe interacted with schoolchildren, actively participating in various activities designed to foster engagement. Additionally, he explored stalls set up by IORA member states and other government institutions, further contributing to the event’s vibrant atmosphere.

IORA Day is an annual celebration observed on 7th March, featuring the participation of 23 member states and 11 dialogue partners. The focus of this year’s theme revolves around educating children on the significance of ocean conservation and promoting sustainable practices to preserve the ocean.

As part of the ocean-awareness initiatives for schoolchildren, a national-level art competition was organized during the celebrations, emphasizing the importance of instilling environmental consciousness from a young age.
