Prices of Imported Indian Eggs to Rise from January 21, Confirms Sri Lankan Trade Minister

The Trade Minister of Sri Lanka, Nalin Fernando, has announced an impending increase in the prices of eggs imported from India, effective from January 21. According to the Minister, these imported eggs will now be retailed at Rs. 43 per egg across all Sathosa outlets nationwide.

Previously, imported eggs were available at Rs. 35 per egg, and a carton was sold at Rs. 40 per egg specifically at Lanka Sathosa outlets. The decision to import eggs was initiated in the first half of 2023 in response to a severe shortage and the escalating prices of eggs in the local market.
