Reported Skin Allergies in Babies Linked to Substandard Soaps, Warns Government Family Health Services Association

The Government Family Health Services Association has reported various skin allergies occurring in babies due to the use of substandard soaps. Priyangani Susangika, the association’s treasurer, emphasized that some parents are currently opting for substandard soap for their babies, with potential long-term consequences.

Susangika urged parents to select baby soap approved by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI). “Baby skin is highly sensitive. The effects of using substandard soap may not manifest immediately but can emerge after many years. Therefore, parents must exercise caution when choosing soap,” she advised.
