A special announcement has been issued for motorists traveling on the expressway due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

The Road Development Authority (RDB) requests motorists to maintain a maximum speed of 60 km per hour on the expressway.

Heavy rainfall has affected more than 19,000 people across seven districts: Ratnapura, Kegalle, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Galle, Kalutara, and Puttalam. Currently, 4,786 families are reported to be impacted.

Additionally, around 32 houses have been partially damaged, and 1,140 people have been relocated to safe locations.

The Meteorological Department predicts more than 150 mm of rainfall in the Western and North-Western provinces within the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the Sabaragamuwa province, Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Mannar districts may experience heavy rains exceeding 100 mm today.

Due to the ongoing heavy rains, landslide early warnings remain in effect for several areas in the eight districts of Badulla, Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, and Ratnapura.
