The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has reported that the country welcomed a total of 201,687 tourists in January 2024. Notably, this figure includes more than 31,000 Indian nationals and over 28,000 Russian nationals.
While the majority of tourists were from Russia and India, SLTDA’s official data reveals that visitors from Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, China, France, Poland, and the Netherlands also contributed to the overall arrivals.
In 2023, Sri Lanka experienced a total of 1,487,303 tourist arrivals, with December marking the highest monthly figure at 210,352.
Additionally, Major General (Retd.) Prasad Samarasinghe, the Director and CEO of Colombo Lotus Tower Management Company (Pvt) Ltd, announced that since the Lotus Tower’s public opening in September 2022, a total of 50,000 foreign tourists have visited. To commemorate this milestone, the 50,000th foreign tourist, a Bulgarian national, was presented with a special gift on January 31, 2024.
