U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Commends Sri Lanka’s Economic Revitalization Efforts and Global Security Cooperation

The meeting between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard Verma, on Friday (Feb. 23) saw expressions of gratitude from Verma for the proactive steps taken by the Sri Lankan government to revitalize its economy.

In the discussions, President Wickremesinghe provided insights into the advancements made in debt restructuring and highlighted key economic reform initiatives, including the agricultural modernization program.

Touching upon global security concerns, Deputy Secretary Verma extended appreciation to the Sri Lankan government for their support in the ongoing naval operations in the Red Sea.

President Wickremesinghe affirmed Sri Lanka’s unwavering commitment to Freedom of Navigation in the Indian Ocean, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s position on the Houthi rebels as a gesture of solidarity.
