Weather Forecast: Showers Expected in Several Provinces and Districts Today

According to the latest forecast, showers or thundershowers are anticipated in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Mannar, Galle, and Matara districts after 2:00 p.m. today (20).

Additionally, misty conditions are forecasted in some areas of Sabaragamuwa and the Central provinces, as well as in Kalutara, Galle, and Matara districts during the morning hours.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate any potential damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas:

Showers or thundershowers are expected at a few places in the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle during the evening or night.

Winds will predominantly be South-westerly or variable in direction, with speeds ranging between 20-30 kmph. However, wind speeds may occasionally increase up to 40-45 kmph in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar, as well as from Galle to Hambantota via Matara.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara may experience fairly rough conditions at times.

During thundershowers, temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas are expected, urging caution for marine activities.
